Friday Favorites

Hello friends and Happy Friday!  So hard to believe we are almost done with school, next week is the kids official last week and it truly has felt like a blur and the longest two months of my life all at once.  We are not sure what Fall is going to look like for us here in Ohio, there is talk of a blend of homeschool and in-school instruction.  With everything opening back up again for the Summer, only time will tell how it will all play out.  Per usual, I am linking up with Erika, Andrea and Narci and sharing with you all of my favorites this past week and looking forward to reading all about yours.  Without further ado...let's get on to what I have been loving this Friday!

SPA NIGHT WITH MY GIRL

Jillian had been asking me for a girls night so I ordered the Beautycounter Charcoal mask and planned a fun night for my girl.  We had a lot of fun and will definitely be doing it again in the future!

MY NEW OFFICE

Introducing my new office!  With Jeff now working from home, he has taken over my office since it is better equipped for him to be on conference calls, set up his computer, etc.  So the guest bedroom for my office it is!  As you can see, it is a bit different from my old office, but I am loving my new view and the natural light.  The guest bedroom has the best view and lighting in our entire house, and not to mention, I have the cutest office assistants ever!  I am looking forward to working in here over the Summer and until Jeff goes back to his Corporate office.

THE FASTER WAY TO FAT LOSS

The Faster Way to Fat Loss is still a favorite as we wrap up Week 4.  I haven't missed a workout yet and can feel myself getting stronger!  One challenge I have found trying do this program during a pandemic is that you are at the mercy with what you have in your home to eat.  You can't just run to the grocery store in a pinch anymore as we try to limit our grocery store trips to at least once a week.  I made this delicious veggie burger salad this week and it was surprisingly a win!

These riced veggies from Green Giant have been a LIFE SAVER during my Faster Way to Fat Loss journey!  They are sooo good and they have barely any calories or carbs.  I was a serious rice girl before the program and these have proved to be such a satisfying alternative.  If I am not sure what to eat for dinner, I just pop one of these in the microwave, saute a bunch of onions, soy sauce, add a protein and some peas, and I have dinner!  It's delicious.  Trying to stick to my Macros and coming up with fun meals has definitly been a favorite!  Can't wait to see what my results are after Week 6.  Only 2 more weeks to go!

KIMONOS

Kimonos for Spring is definitely a favorite!!  They are lightweight, inexpensive and they dress up the simplest white tee and jean shorts.  Have you jumped on the Kimono trend yet?

This green floral one is my fav, hopefully more sizes will come back into stock as the weather warms up!

NATIVE DEODERANT

I shared on my instastories last week that I switched to Native, an aluminum free deodorant. I mean, is there truly a better time to try out a new deodorant than during a quarantine?  LOL! So far it is going well, my only advice so far is that you definitly need to reapply the next day or you will notice :). I will eventually be giving a full review on this product in the near future...stay tuned!

I hope you all have a great weekend!  Stay safe!

Friday Favorites

Hello friends and Happy Friday!  We just wrapped up Week 5 of home schooling and there have definitely been some good days and some not so good.  And a few that have required wine. LOL!

KAREN AT HOME BLOG

I am beyond excited to kick off my Friday Favorites post with an announcement, it's something I just decided today.  After a lot of thought and consideration, I am changing my blog name back to its original name, KAREN AT HOME.  After 12 years of blogging, I had changed the name to Suburban Style Life, it never quite felt the same, and I am so excited to get back to the name that I know and love.  Karen At Home truly feels like home to me.  Look for some serious blog rebranding coming soon and hopefully will be changing my URL back as well.

HOME GYM

Last weekend we cleaned and organized our basement, because what else do you do during a Pandemic?  Anyway, we created a Home Gym space which I am so excited about.  I began The Faster Way to Fat Loss program this month and I wanted a fitness space to keep me motivated.  I also love it because the kids are now interested in fitness and have been completing their virtual gym classes now in this space.

THE FASTER WAY TO FAT LOSS

The Faster Way to Fat Loss is still a favorite as we kicked off my first official week of the program.  Intermittent Fasting hasn't been too terribly tough so far, I have pretty much stuck to my 16 hour fasting window and have been loving the workouts and meals.  I also love the Carb cycling aspect of the program, I can't believe that I have been eating so many carbs so far on regular macro days!  I am so excited to share my journey and my progress with all of you.  I have been sharing daily snippets of my journey over on Instagram so be sure you are following along!

TOP 3 JACKETS FOR WOMEN

I shared this week am excited my Top 3 Spring Jackets for Women, I am sure it comes to no surprise that all 3 come from Old Navy.  This is where I primarily shop and for good reason, their clothes are on trend, inexpensive and wear well.  Definite musts for any busy Mama!

GREEN BEANS ALMONDINE

I made this quick and easy side dish on Easter Sunday and it was definitely a favorite!  I had so many of you ask about it since sharing it on my instastories, I thought I would create a blog post for easy reference.  I have always loved ordering Green Beans Almondine as a side dish when dining out, however, since we are not able to eat out during these uncertain times, I thought I would try to make it at home.  It turned out so good and surprisingly so easy!  This recipe is also Keto and Faster Way to Fat Loss friendly which is a bonus.

I hope you all have a great weekend!  Stay safe!

Top 3 Spring Jackets for Women

Hello friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We had warm weather and sunshine yesterday here in Cleveland. It felt so good to get outside!! Today begins Day 1 of The Faster Way to Fat Loss for me and I can’t wait to get started. This weekend wrapped up “prep week” and I can already see how this program could be a major game changer for me in achieving healthy lifestyle. I am already loving the workouts and intermittent fasting is not as scary as I once thought! I am so excited to share my journey and my progress with you guys.  I will be sharing daily snippets of my journey over on Instagram so be sure you are following along!  Today I am excited to share my Top 3 Spring Jackets for Women, I am sure it comes to no surprise that all 3 come from Old Navy.  This is where I primarily shop and for good reason, their clothes are on trend, inexpensive and wear well.  Definite musts for this busy Mama!

CAMO SPRING JACKET

I forsee this adorable camo utility jacket on major repeat this Spring. It runs big so I sized up to an extra small, I typically take a small in outerwear.  Inside the jacket is a drawstring so you can add a little cinching to the waist based on what you are wearing underneath.  Wearing a tee underneath?  Then you will want to cinch it a little more than if you were wearing a bulky sweater.  I love that you have the option to truly wear whatever you like underneath, based on the ever changing Spring weather.  You will look super cute and put together no matter what!

BLUE DENIM JACKET

Is there anything more classic than a blue denim jacket?  I love how it always completes any outfit, it looks perfect with either the most casual legging or a dressy Spring dress.

A blue denim jacket also looks adorable paired with colored denim such as olive, black or white.  How cute is this look with the Olive denim and leopard print shoes?

WHITE DENIM JACKET

Wearing blue jeans while running your morning errands? Throw on this adorable white denim jacket to complete your look and to protect you from that Spring morning chill.

What jackets are you loving this Spring?  Which one of the 3 I shared is your favorite? I would love to hear what you think by leaving a comment below.

XOXO,
Karen

Green Beans Almondine

Happy Thursday friends!  I hope you are all having a great week.  I wanted to share with all of you this quick and easy side dish I made on Easter Sunday...Green Beans Almondine.

Ingredients:
  • 1 bag of Steamfresh green beans
  • 1/4 Cup Chopped Onion
  • 2 tablespoons sliced almonds
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • pinch of minced garlic
  • salt and pepper to taste
How to Make It:

Pop the bag of frozen green beans into the microwave for six minutes.  While the green beans are cooking, saute the onions in olive oil until lightly caramelized.  Once the onions are transparent, add the sliced almonds and minced garlic.  Continue to sautée both the onion and almonds together for a few more minutes.  Stir in your bag of cooked green beans.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Enjoy!

I hope you all have an amazing week!

A Beautycounter 5 Minute Makeup Routine for Moms

Hello Mamas!!!  Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend enjoying this beautiful Spring weather.  I am so excited to share with you today a quick 5 minute makeup routine for busy Mamas using products from Beautycounter.  As I was running out the door to take my daughter to dance class, I filmed my quick 5 minute makeup routine to share with all of you the steps I take when I don't have a lot of time, although I still want to look my best.

Beautycounter Products You Will Need

As a busy Mama, you want to look put together and not like you were up all night with your baby.  One of the most important parts of speeding up your makeup routine is having the right products on hand in an organized work space.  Here is what I typically use:
  • Beautycounter Tint Skin Foundation and Retractable Foundation Brush.  Applying Beautycounter Tint Skin foundation using the Retractable Brush goes on quick and evenly with just a few swipes.  I am currently wearing the shade Linen.
  • Beautycounter Satin Powder Blush in Guava.  This beautiful light pink color gives your cheeks the right pinch of cool pink.  Packed with pigment, all you need is a slight swipe to your cheeks.  This blush goes on super smooth and blends easily.
  • Beautycounter Color Intense Lipstick is a long lasting lipstick that will stay put for hours.  Who has time to reapply lip color while chasing little ones around the house?  Have an extra minute?  Use these liquid lipsticks alone or as a base layer with the Beautycounter's Lip Gloss for a long-lasting look that will not dry out your lips.
  • Beautycounter Volumizing Mascara.  Beautycounter's Mascara is an inexpensive, ONE step natural fiber mascara.  The mascara contains a buildable formula so you control just how big and bold you want those lashes to look for preschool dropoff.  The brush head separates and evenly coats each lash for a perfect application every time!
  • Beautycounter Precision Liquid Eyeliner.  Beautycounter's liquid eyeliner is so easy to use and you can draw any line, thick or thin.  It's long wearing formula even lasts up to 12 hours.
  • Beautycounter Velvet Eyeshadows.  One of my favorite Beautycounter makeup products is their eyeshadows.  I can't get over the amount of pigment in these shadows and how long they last!
  • Beautycounter Color Outline Eyeliner Pencil.  I will typically wear liquid eyeliner on my upper lash line and a kohl pencil on my lower last line.  Beautycounter's pencil eyeliners glide on easily and will stay put throughout your day without smudging.
TIP: Need an extra 5 minutes in the morning to get out the door on time?  Skip the at home make up routine all together and do it on the go.  Keep an extra cosmetic bag of Beautycounter essentials in your car just incase you skip your morning makeup routine at home.

How to Apply Your Makeup

Now that we have all of our Beautycounter essential make up supplies in place and organized, let's go through our make up routine in 5 easy steps.
  1. Skip the concealer and go straight to your foundation. Beautycounter's Tint Skin is buildable, just dab a little extra in areas where you need a little extra coverage. Using your Retractable brush helps the foundation go on quick and evenly, saving you time from checking and double-checking your face for foundation lines.
  2. Apply a light layer of Beautycounter's Powder Blush to your cheeks and in other places on your face where the sun would normally hit like your hairline and on each side of your nose.
  3. Dust a light layer of neutral eye shadow to your eyelids and choose one shade deeper to upper crease and the outer "V" of your eyes to create a quick and easy smoky look.  If you have an extra minute, use an angled eye liner brush to rim under your eye lid with the deeper eye shadow shade.  Apply one light coat of Beautycounter's Volumizing Mascara.  With the fiber's already included in this one-step formula, one coat is sometimes all you need to complete your look.
  4. Quickly line your eyes with both the liquid and pencil eyeliners.
  5. Add a quick coat of long wearing color intense lipstick and lipgloss.   Finish the look with a quick layer of gloss for some added shine.

By perfecting these 5 quick and easy steps, your makeup routine will soon become an easy part of your busy morning.  I would love to hear from you, share your quick and easy makeup tips that you have learned to ensure your morning routine is an easy one in the comments below.  Enjoy your day!
